Mitsubishi GT-PHEV Concept Debuts in Paris

After the success of the Outlander earlier this year, Mitsubishi announced plans to reevaluate their lineup, phasing out some of their less popular nameplates and refocusing their efforts on the crossover and SUV segment. It seems one of the first results of that new strategy will be making an appearance at the Paris Motor Show in the form of the new Mitsubishi GT-PHEV concept. This plug-in hybrid SUV offers a more aggressive, stylish look than your typical Mitsubishi nameplate, and its capabilities are strides ahead of most current members of the PHEV segment, too.

According to Mitsubishi representatives, the GT-PHEV will combine a traditional gasoline engine powering the front wheels with an electric motor powering the rear wheels. As a result, the SUV will be able to run up to 75 miles on electricity alone without ever tapping into the fuel tank, about double that of most plug-in hybrids currently in mass-market production. The SUV also features a sleeker, futuristic style, designed with thinner elements and a low-sloped windshield that ends in a sharp rear bumper.

We haven’t been given a peek yet at the interior of the Mitsubishi GT-PHEV concept, though that’s sure to change when the vehicle makes it appearance in Paris. We hear whisperings of burgundy leather that matches the SUV’s roof color, plus a spacious horizontal dashboard.

The 2015 Mitsubishi Outlander lands on Kelley Blue Book’s “10 Most Affordable 3-Row Vehicles” list

On the heels of the announcement that Mitsubishi is focusing specifically on SUVs, the new Mitsubishi Outlander now occupies an even more important position in the Mitsubishi lineup. It’s fortunate, then, that the new Mitsubishi Outlander is such a great SUV. It has more powertrain options and better efficiency than past models, and all those improvements landed it a spot on KBB’s “10 Most Affordable 3-Row Vehicles” list for 2015.

The new Outlander also earned a “Top Safety Pick+” rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), the highest rating given out by the institute. It comes with a standard 2.4-liter engine with 166 horsepower, and has a great, tech-laden cabin for everyone in the family. All those new features pushed the Outlander to the top of KBB’s list.

“The 2015 Mitsubishi Outlander is an outstanding value proposition and comes with a long list of standard safety features and amenities,” said Don Swearingen, Executive Vice President, MMNA. “And for 2016, the Outlander will feature bold new styling and over 100 key engineering and interior refinements, adding even more value to an already feature-laden vehicle.”
