The holiday season is right around the corner. That’s why we’ve put together a list of holiday travel tips to help you get the most out of your experience on the road. Although few people realize it, there are some important things to keep in mind before you hit the highway. From travel times to essential supplies, you’ll be glad you were prepared for the trip.
According to the Travel Channel, timing is everything. Regardless of whether you are driving or flying, there are some important days to avoid. Even if you’re driving, search airport dates for the most expensive days to travel around the holidays—and then avoid those. Typically, the most expensive day to travel will be the busiest. Although you might assume Fridays or Sundays are the worst days to drive, this isn’t always true.
Download some apps. If you aren’t the most tech-savvy person around, ask your family or friends to download an app for travelling. In particular, you can find apps to locate the cheapest gas, the cleanest rest stops, or the best routes for travel. Take advantage of technology—most other drivers do.
Finally, be sure to pack light. Although it might go against your instincts, packing light will leave you more room for the trip. If you are staying for an extended period, try to locate a laundromat where you can clean your clothes instead of packing a closet. Need toiletries? Buy them at your location. You’ll be happy to have every square inch covered when you hit the road.
