Due to dropping gas prices, short-sighted new car buyers might be turning their attention back to the full-size trucks and SUVs they love so much—and guzzle so much gas—but Mitsubishi is offering a more practical, long-lasting alternative. While we can’t predict what will happen to gas prices— we’d guess they don’t stay this low for long—we can tell you about the Mitsubishi i-MiEV, a new Mitsubishi EV that will keep you from ever paying for gas again.
The 2014 Mitsubishi i-MiEV surprises: Quirky, Roomy, Incredibly Efficient.
New Mitsubishi EV
Plus, the i-MiEV is actually an affordable green car as well. It starts at just $22,995, which is just the sticker price, and it can actually get much lower than that thanks to tax incentives. That basically means you can get the new Mitsubishi EV for less than the price of a similarly sized small car.
The i-MiEV might look small and quirky, but it’s actually roomier than you might expect inside, in the front and back seats alike. The EV gets 112 MPGe combined, can go almost 70 miles on a single charge, can be recharged quickly, and more—all thanks to the 16-kW battery pack and electric motor. 2015 Mitsubishi Mirage
With 2015 just starting, sometimes it can be nice to reflect on 2014 and everything that happened. This is especially true if you experienced an important milestone in 2014. This concept is certainly true for Mitsubishi Motors right now, which recently announced its 2014 sales numbers. It turns out that there was a 24.8% increase for 2013 when compared year over year to 2013!
“December marked the 20th consecutive month of year-over-year sales increases and helped us close out the year with an increase of nearly 25 percent over the previous year. Our core models lead the way with Outlander Sport having its best-ever sales year since its introduction, Mirage selling well beyond expectations and Outlander coming in strong up over 6 percent for the year,” said Don Swearington, executive vice president of Mitsubishi Motor North America, Inc.

Swearington also said that 2015 will bring releases of more versions of the Outlander, which will mark the start of a series of launches for the brand. December’s landmark sales month included a total of 6,656 units.

2015 Mitsubishi Lancer named IIHS Top Safety Picks
Safety is a priority at Mitsubishi, and it couldn’t be any more evident than it is now. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) recently recognized three different Mitsubishi vehicles—the 2015 Outlander, Outlander Sport, and Lancer—with Top Safety Pick awards. These IIHS Top Safety Picks were honored for their combination of unstoppable safety technology and terrific body design, both of which work together to keep their passengers safe.
2015 Mitsubishi Outlander named IIHS Top Safety Picks
“Thanks to our advanced high-tech engineering and safety features, the Mitsubishi Lancer, Outlander, and Outlander Sport have consistently achieved high IIHS safety ratings,” said Don Swearingen, Executive Vice President of Mitsubishi Motors North America. “The Mitsubishi RISE safety body construction system is the perfect example of this kind of technology. In the event of an accident, energy is absorbed and deflected away from the occupant cell, which enhances passenger protection.”
2015 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport named IIHS Top Safety Picks
The IIHS awarded the 2015 Mitsubishi Outlander, when equipped with the model’s available Forward Collision Mitigation system, the organization’s highest possible rating of Top Safety Pick+. This system alerts the driver when a possible frontal collision is imminent. Both the Outlander Sport and Lancer sedan received the honor of Top Safety Picks. This is the fourth year in a row the Outlander Sport was recognized with this award while the Lancer has received this safety rating seven other times.

While we are sad that Mitsubishi is walking away from the Evo X, we’re glad they’re making a Lancer Evolution X Final Concept.
Mitsubishi has officially announced that the Tokyo Auto Salon later this month will house the premiere of the last model of the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X Final Concept, a limited edition send-off model, which will have a mostly black exterior.
Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X Final Concept
This model will be the last Evo X ever produced, and as such, there will only be a limited number of units available for purchase. These cars are sure to be a hot commodity on the collectors’ market as commemorative vehicles to the Evo X legacy.
The Final Concept vehicle will come standard with a five-speed manual though there will be a six-speed twin-clutch option. Additionally, the Final Concept model will have a 2.0-liter engine with a turbocharger, as well as new intake and exhaust systems.
These cars are likely to sell fast once they hit the market, which likely will not happen until much later this year. Until then, come visit us at Randall Mitsubishi to check out the Mitsubishi models we have in store.
